A notorious motorcycle thief (name withheld) has been arrested by the local security men, Vigilante group, in Akunnu Akoko, after snatching and killing two commercial motorcyclist operators in the area.
The suspect was apprehended by the local security men while attempting to run away from the state with one of the motorcycles and was caught at a border town between Ondo and Kogi state, Akunnu Akoko.
The suspect was said to have killed the two motorcycle riders separately, taking their Okada and leaving them to die in the bush.
It was gathered that one of the Okada riders, Dada Jatto, from Iyani Akoko, was strangulated by the assailants who lured him into a bush, killed him, and left his remains in the bush.
The remains of Jatto, a father of two, were discovered some three days after a search party was put in place to look for him, after missing for three days and his decomposing body was discovered.
A source within the community explained that “Jatto was reported to be missing for about three days and we organized a search party for him.
“We, however, discovered his mutilated body with his damaged phone along Arigidi Akoko and One Agbe road, but without his motorcycle.
“The second incident involved a Hausa man, who was also a commercial Okada rider. The Hausa man was lured from Ikare Akoko to the hideout along Arigidi road where they hit him with a sledgehammer on his head.
“The young man was unconscious and his motorcycle was taken away too but he was found unconscious by some people and we took him to the hospital for medical treatment.
“He was able to explain what happened and give the description of the notorious motorcycle snatcher but we discovered he had left the town.
“We decided to trace him and he was apprehended at a border town between Ondo and Kogi state, around Akunnu Akoko, with the motorcycle”
He said the suspect was trying to flee after killing the two victims and snatched their motorcycles, but luck ran against him when the security men apprehended him.
He, however, disclosed that the victims died a few hours after the suspect was arrested by the vigilante group.
Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmi Odunlami, said the incident was reported that to the police.
Odunlami said one of the cases was reported and investigation had commenced into the incident.
She assured that other culprits would be arrested and will be brought before a court of law.
