National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said that more governors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will soon defect to the APC.
Ganduje made this declaration on Thursday while formally receiving Senator Sumaila Kawu, representing Kano South in the National Assembly on the platform of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), along with two other members.
It is worth noting that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his immediate predecessor, Peter Okowa, left the PDP on Wednesday.
In addition to Senator Kawu, the other two members of the House of Representatives who defected are Honourables Kabiru Alhasan Rumum, representing Rano/Kibiya Federal Constituency, and Abdullahi Sani Rogo.

Other defectors include Honourable Zubairu Hamza Massu, a member of the Kano State House of Assembly, Dr. Baffa Bichi, former Secretary to the State Government, Honourable Mohd Digol, Honourable Abbas Abbas, Honourable Sha’aban Ibrahim Lawal—all former commissioners, former governorship candidate Honourable Badamasi Ayuba Danbatta, and former House of Representatives member Honourable Idris Dankuwa.
Ganduje declared that with the increasing defections, Tinubu’s second term in 2027 is a “done deal.”
He said, “In the APC, we believe in our president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We believe in his economic reforms, and we believe in his Renewed Hope Agenda. Part of the political Renewed Hope Agenda is to canvass for more followers to join the party.
“We started by democratically electing governors, especially in Edo State, where we were able to win the election. He was in the PDP, and now he is in the APC.
“Now, another channel has opened through advocacy, dialogue, and convincing highly influential elected governors to join the party. You can see what has happened now. The governor of Delta State is now in the APC, including his cabinet, all the members of the state assembly, and members of the House of Representatives. Even the top brass of the PDP is now joining the APC, including the former vice-presidential candidate.
“So, you can see that we are expanding. I don’t want to reveal our secrets, but what I am telling you is that APC 2027 is a done deal.”
“More governors are coming into the APC, I assure you, and in places where we have elections, the APC will win those elections, Insha Allah.”
Senator Kawu, who on Wednesday said that the interests of his constituents would be best served, stated that he would add value to the APC.
“I refer you to the 2023 general election. Go and check the results—specifically the presidential, senatorial, and House of Representatives elections. On the same day, at the same polling unit, I contested alongside Kwankwaso. That will give you the answer to your question. You will see my result, his (Kwankwaso’s) result, and the results for various members of the House of Representatives on that very day.”
“Then, in the subsequent election—the senatorial and state assembly elections—you will see the difference, and you will understand what we are telling you.”
