Mechanic allegedly causes colleague’s death by hitting him with nail

A 28-year-old mechanic, Taiwo Adeyemi was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja High Court for allegedly injuring his colleague with a nail studded piece of wood which ultimately led to the latter’s death.

The sad incident it was gathered happened sometimes in 2014, at Ashade market, Agege.

Adeyemi and the deceased, Isikiru Oladeinde had gotten into an argument and the defendant allegedly struck the deceased in the hand with the nail studded piece of wood which resulted in an injury.

Testifying before the court, the brother to the deceased, Kehinde Oladiende recalled that the deceaseds wife called him in the midnight to notify him of the incident.

“My late younger brother’s wife called me around 11pm on the day of the incident that he was in serious pains as a result of the injury he sustained during the fight.

“I rushed there the next day and found my brother in serious pains. His arm was swollen up to his neck. We rushed him to Ota General Hospital where he was admitted for a day. When his condition worsened, we were referred to the Federal Medical Center in Ota, where he later gave up the ghost at midnight.

“Being Muslims, my brother was buried immediately. His wife also died few weeks later because if the trauma. The four children they left behind were distributed among our family members,” he told the court.

Adeyemi was subsequently arrested and charged to court where he pleaded not guilty to a one count charge of manslaughter.

The presiding judge, Justice Hakeem Oshodi consequently adjourned the matter till September 12 for continuation of trial.
