A 35-year-old man Opeyemi Ogunjobi, who allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Ogunjobi, whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of rape.
The defendant’s plea was, however, not taken.
The prosecutor, ASP Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov 14, 2018, at No. 11, Ladipo St., Alapere, Ketu, Lagos.
Ihiehie said Ogunjobi had unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl without her consent and told her not to tell anyone what he had done.

The prosecutor also claimed that the girl was not the first victim to have been defiled by the defendant in his neighbourhood.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence contravenes Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubainje, remanded the defendant in prison and ordered that the case file should be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Kubainje adjourned the case until April 30, for further mention.
