Makinde promises LAUTECH students, unions of improved institution

THE Peoples Democratic Party Gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State,Mr Seyi Makinde has assured all staff unions and students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, that he will reposition the institution for good to ensure that it is ranked among the best institutions in the world if granted the mandate in the coming election.

Makinde disclosed this while speaking with students and various union leaders of the institution during a meeting held in Ogbomoso, on Sunday night.

The PDP Governorship candidate while reaffirming that restructuring of the state education sector remains his number one priority, further asserted that his administration will work steadfastly in reversing all the unfavourable policies of the present administration that has crumbled and degraded standard of education at the institution.

Makinde said, “Education remains my number one priority if granted the opportunity to serve the state as the next governor.”

Speaking about underfunding of LAUTECH, “I will allocate 10 per cent of the budget to education which will increase by subsequent time. The N1000 fees paid by secondary school students will be completely scrapped because it is a mischievous move by the administration.”

While responding to some of the issues affecting the smooth running of the institution amongst which is underfunding as raised by comrade Abiodun Oluwaseun, the student union government president of LAUTECH, Makinde stated that if granted the mandate, the PDP administration under his leadership will review in an open and transparent manner the issue of LAUTECH school fees with an aim to reduce the burden on parents, adding that he will work towards making the institution solely owned by Oyo State.

While emphasizing that the future lies in the hands of the electorates, Makinde called for collaborative support from the students’ community in bringing the positive and desired change expected a reality come May 2019.

In addition, Honourable Mulikat Akande-Adeola, PDP senatorial candidate for Oyo North district, who was also present at the meeting assured that PDP and Seyi Makinde will bring succour and the transformation the school deserve if voted into power.
