
Nigerians have been advised to study and emulate the lives of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his jewel of inestimable value, Chief (Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, who, apart from devoting their lives to the service of God and humanity, also built solid legacies that have continued to endure.
Delivering a sermon during the Holy Communion Service held at the Awolowo residence in Ikenne Remo, Ogun State, on Saturday, to commemorate the posthumous birthday of Mama HID Awolowo, the Vicar of Our Saviour’s Church, Ikenne, Venerable Samuel Enike, extolled the virtues of Chief Awolowo and Mama HID Awolowo, whose accomplishments he said have continued to reference discussions in the country.
According to Venerable Enike, the fact that both Chief Awolowo and his Mama HID Awolowo, were still being talked about and extolled for their selfless service and commitment to the common good, even after their transition to life eternal, underscored the uniqueness of the lives they led.
Venerable Enike enjoined all Nigerians, especially those in the positions of authority, to take a leaf from the books of the Awolowos by building legacies that would outlive them and live a commendable life that would be worthy of emulation.
He added that the reason the Awolowos remained immortal “is because of their strong faith in God and the great service they provided humanity by adding value to the lives of others,” commending the Awolowos exemplary attributes to all as the key to ensuring progress in the society.
The service, which was graced by family members led by the chairman of the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, publishers of the Tribune Titles, Reverend (Mrs) Omotola Oyediran; co-chairman, ANN Plc, Dr Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosumu and friends of the Awolowos, had in attendance Venerables Samson Temilayo Adeoye, Remi Onajole, Professor Olusola Olabode, Chief (Mrs) Mercy Owolana, Hon. Bisi Agbaye, representatives of Ijaw women, Chief Olusola Odumosu , Reverend Canon Simeon Odeleke and Mr Edward Dickson, Managing Director/ Editor-in-Chief, ANN Plc.
Others were Reverend Adesina Adeniyi, Deaconess Oluremi Sotire, Oluwole Adelana, Mrs biodun Busola Awoyemi, among others.
Reverend (Mrs) Omotola Oyediran, while appreciating God for the exemplary life Mama HID lived, thanked the guests for creating the time to attend the Holy Communion service.
