THE leadership crisis currently rocking the Anambra State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has degenerated to another level as two persons now lay claim to the leadership of the party in the State.
The party that before was not counted among the top political parties in the state, now command major discuss among political parties after some leadership of the People Democratic Party from the national decided to collapse their structures into SDP.
Many interest groups who were not favoured in the just concluded November 18, 2017, Anambra state governorship election see SDP as a viable alternative party to wrestle power from the state ruling party, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2019 National and State houses of Assemblies general election.
Speaking to journalists at his party office in Awka, the factional chairman of the Social Democratic party Hon Vincent Obi disclosed that his faction remains the authentic to wrestle power from the APGA in the next general election without compromise, as he said the party SDP is presently having over 15,000 registered PVCs holders as members of State.

Also, another factional chairman of the party, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwanekwe, who is the state secretary of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), debunked the claims that SDP is factionalised in Anambra state, said those parading themselves are not registered members of the party, alleged that the former Senator, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Annie Okonkwo, is behind the factionalisation of the party in the State.

The die is now cast, who controls the affairs of the party in Anambra state will be a discus that many say the national leadership of the party should intervene to enable the party to have its rightful place among other political parties that are warm and ready to wrestle power from the state ruling party, APGA.
