Mike Edwards, first runner up at this year’s Big Brother Naija (BBN) may have emerged as a household name in Nigeria today but the lanky model was only a homeless athlete fighting to represent Nigeria at the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship in Asaba, Delta State after a failed attempt to switch allegiance.
While all may seem rosy now, Mike who said his life has transformed in less than four weeks that he left the BBN house recalled that last year he was homeless in Nigeria as he struggled to find his feet in the country through his participation in sports.
Sharing his Nigeria experience with his wife, Mike said he is enjoying every minute of being back on home soil and spending quality time exploring Lagos and feeling the city and enjoying the what he described as the experience of a lifetime.
With new attention and opportunities coming his way, the athlete cum model said he would not take the opportunities for granted and promised to keep showing his fans love even though his movement has been restricted because he caused too much attention anywhere he stepped in the last few weeks.
“I am enjoying every minute if being back on home soil and spending quality time exploring Lagos with my beautiful wife. The city is so electric and fulfilling. I came with a goal to make the most of the opportunity of a lifetime and I am embracing the uncertainty of it all.”
Speaking on opportunities coming his way, Mike said he had had incredible offers as he hoped to take a leap of faith in picking what is best for him and his family.
“It is crazy to think that last year, I was a homeless athlete fighting to represent Nigeria, and now I am a household name. God’s plans worked,” he said.
