The Lake Chad Governor’s Forum has pledged its support for the reintegration of internally displaced persons in Borno State.
The chairperson of the forum, Ildjima Abdramane, who is also the governor of Hadjer-Lamis province in the Chad Republic, led a high-level delegation to the state to assess the resettlement, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.
During her visit to Mafa town and surrounding villages on Thursday, Abdramane expressed concern for the IDPs, who have been affected by the decade-long Boko Haram insurgency, but welcomed the returning peace and potential for stability in the state.
“We have seen your situation, and we are so concerned about the situation on the ground,” she stated.
According to her, the forum plans to convene a regional governors’ meeting on October 18 to strengthen security cooperation and mobilise global support for sustainable solutions.
“The aim of the visit is part of the preparation for our conference, and we will call and seek international organisations to solve your problems.”
Abdramane stated that the forum is committed to supporting Borno’s resettlement efforts, which raises hopes for a peaceful resolution and regional stability.
“We will go to different regions to know what has actually improved since the fourth conference.
She commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s commitment to restoring Borno State, which has been ravaged by the insurgency.
“We have visited so many places, but we have not seen a dedicated governor like your own.”
The visit is seen as a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in the Lake Chad Basin region.
