The Lagos State Government is set to persecute five over an attack on Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officers.
Five individuals have been apprehended for assaulting and injuring LASTMA personnel during an enforcement operation in the Oba Akran Avenue area of Ikeja, Lagos.
Addressing the incident, Hon. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, clarified that the LASTMA operatives were engaged in an operation to clear illegally parked trucks on Oba Akran Avenue, prompted by numerous public complaints regarding the trucks causing traffic congestion.
He recounted how the truck drivers and hoodlums in the vicinity violently attacked the operatives. Despite facing vandalism of LASTMA vehicles, trucks were successfully removed during the operation to ease road congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow.

The Special Adviser disclosed that working in collaboration with the police, LASTMA officials arrested five of the assailants, identified as Falomo Oluwafemi, Afeniyi Stephen, Olamide Adekunle, Chukwu Guaja Eze, and Adeshina Sulaimon.
Additionally, the injured LASTMA officers received immediate medical attention. Hon. Sola Giwa emphasized that the state government will prosecute the arrested individuals to serve as a deterrent to others.
On Tuesday, 23rd of April 2024, LASTMA officials conducted an operation to clear illegally parked trucks on Sapara Williams and Oba Akran avenues. The trucks, belonging to a company, had taken over a critical stretch of the road, causing major disruptions.
