Lagos presents new Ikeja Model City Plan

Lagos State government on Thursday announced the completion of the revision of the existing Ikeja Model City Plan, assuring of its determination to bequeath a sustainable, organized, liveable, business and tourism friendly environment to Lagosians.

The government said the need to revised Ikeja Model City Plan was borne out of “an attempt to promote a conducive environment through a qualitative land use appropriation, urban regeneration with improved accessibility to physical and- social infrastructure that will guarantee efficient and improved economic investment climate in Ikeja.”

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Architect Abiola Anifowoshe, gave this assurance while presenting the Final Draft of the Revised Ikeja Model City Plan to stakeholders and members of the public for inputs, comments and observations for incorporation into the plan and its subsequent implementation.

The commissioner said government was ready to entertain comments and advice that would be beneficial and assist in the finalisation of the on-going revision of the Ikeja Model City Plan (MCP).

Anifowoshe, while emphasising the state government’s determination to produce Strategic Master Plans for the whole of Lagos as envisioned in the Lagos State Development Plan (2012-2025), disclosed that out of the 12 new Development Plans being proposed for the state, eight were already operational.

According to him, they include Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan, Badagry Master Plan, Ikoyi-Victoria Island Model City Plan, Ikeja Model City Plan, Apapa Model City Plan, Lagos Mainland Model City Plan, Alimosho Model City Plan and Agege Model City Plan, saying three others, namely Epe, Ikorodu and Oshodi-Isolo Master/Model City plans, were at different stages of completion.

The commissioner, however, said that of Kosofe would commence later in the year.
