Kwara HOS initiates steps to boost service delivery

Kwara State Head of Service (HOS), Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole, has introduced a new scheme to curb indolence among public servants in the state.

Disturbed by the lacklustre attitude of official responsibilities by workers, particularly since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the HOS has, therefore, directed all directors in the state ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to make a monthly submission of their respective duties and functions.

Speaking during a special interactive session with professional directors in the state civil service in Ilorin, on Thursday, the Kwara HOS explained that the initiative would enable the government to make a proper assessment of all the directorates to identify the active, those performing below expectation and the constraints.

She lamented that the impression being created about the public service was not encouraging despite the government’s effort at invigorating service delivery in the state.

The HOS thus, enjoined the directors to be abreast with the public service rules and procedures to be better guided in handling and relating with their staff and issues brought before them.

She stressed that the “work from home” directive still subsisting in the service was not a guaranty for absenteeism, explaining that staff could be assigned responsibility at any time required and threatened to penalise anyone that breach the rule.

In his remark, the Director of Establishment and Labour Relations, Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim, applauded the state government’s efforts at repositioning the state civil service.

He stated that the staff evaluation programme introduced by the HOS was aimed at further improving the productivity of workers to facilitate the realisation of the government’s policy and programmes for the people and charged all those concerned to ensure its workability.
