The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Commander Samuel Oyedeji, said the command will partner with the Kogi State Emergency Agency (SEMA) towards emergency management in the state.
The Sector Commander made this known on Monday when he visited the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, in his office.
He disclosed that the Corps, as an emergency institution, has deemed it necessary to visit the Agency to familiarise itself with the office and also to know the preparedness plans of the Agency towards flood prediction, as both institutions should work together for effective disaster risk management.
The Sector Commander appreciated the Executive Secretary, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, for his passion and commitment.
He requested that the timetable for the nine (9) LGA town awareness campaigns be sent to him to mobilise the Corps commands in those areas to participate as part of their support.
In his remarks, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, the Executive Secretary, on behalf of his team, appreciated the Sector Commander and his team for the timely visit, even though the Agency was working towards it. Nothing in the visit is a sign of a successful partnership.
In retrospect, the Executive secretary mentioned the excellent performance of the Corps during the previous flood outbreak, leading to efficient management of road traffic when the Kotto Karfi – Abuja road was inaccessible. Noting that the Corps is a critical stakeholder in emergency management
The executive secretary disclosed the preparedness plans of the agency for managing the flood as predicted.
He disclosed that the agency is in the preliminary stage of its implementation of the preparedness plan, which involves the mobilisation of critical stakeholders, the organisation of stakeholder workshops, and massive awareness creation using gatekeepers like traditional rulers, religious leaders, and the media (both print and electronic).
The Executive Secretary reveals that the state governor, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, has the political will to address emergency matters, particularly the impending flood, as he has promised the Agency the necessary support to manage the impending flood disaster.
He thanked Sector Commander Corps Commander Samuel S. Oyedeji for his informative and educative visit, describing it as expedient.
