Former Deputy Governor of Kogi, Edward Onoja, has revealed that he recently held a meeting with activist and politician, Austin Usman Okai, years after both men were at opposite ends of the state’s political divide.
Onoja, in a Facebook post on Saturday, described the meeting with Austin Okai as candid and productive, noting that it helped to clear long-standing misconceptions that had developed over years of political rivalry.
According to him, the discussion created an opportunity to transform past misunderstandings into a foundation for cooperation and mutual respect.

The former deputy governor also commended Okai for what he described as admirable personal qualities.
“I admire three things about Comrade Okai — his punctuality, courage and directness,” Onoja said.
He further appreciated the presence and guidance of senior figures who participated in the meeting, noting that their counsel played a key role in shaping the tone and outcome of the conversation.
Reflecting on the significance of the engagement, Onoja emphasised the importance of reconciliation in politics.
“Peace takes courage. Reconciliation takes maturity. When both prevail, the future becomes greater than the past,” he said, citing the biblical admonition: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.”
He urged political stakeholders in Kogi State to embrace reconciliation and continue building bridges in the interest of unity and development.
According to him, the meeting represents a positive step toward fostering harmony and encouraging forward-looking engagement among political actors in the state.
