Suspected kidnappers have killed two policemen and abducted a former female commissioner, Ada Anioma Joan Onyemaechi, in a church in Asaba, Delta.
The church, the King Jesus and I Church, which was invaded on Tuesday evening, is located off DBS Road in Asaba.
The marauders reportedly left behind a trail of sorrow and death, killing the two policemen providing security at the church premises.
Our correspondent gathered that the kidnappers, who were heavily armed, stormed the church premises and opened fire on the policemen, killing them instantly.
Not done, the attackers proceeded to abduct the former Commissioner, Ada Anioma Joan Onyemaechi, a prominent member of the community.
Sources said the family of the abducted politician has not been contacted as of the time of filing the report.
The incident has jolted the area of the state capital as residents hurried home to avert further sad tales.
Although the Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe a Superintendent of Police SP, hasn’t responded to inquiries,
operatives of the command are said to have launched a manhunt to track down the gunmen.
The gruesome murder of the cops is coming just two days to the commencement of the much-touted Bad Governance Protest for which the command had announced the deployment of tactical formations across the state to avert anarchy and chaos.
The incident reminds residents of the growing insecurity in the region and the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and residents to nip crime in the bud before it occur.
