The kidnappers of the Chief Imam of Uso in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo state, Alhaji Ibrahim Bodunde Oyinlade, have freed him after collecting N2m as ransom to secure his freedom.
It was gathered that the kidnappers who initially demanded N10m as ransom to release the Islamic cleric later agreed to take N2m as ransom after negotiations.
The Chief Imam was said to have walked to his compound in Uso around 9 pm after his abductors set him free on Sunday night.
The kidnappers had abducted the cleric from his farm on Saturday afternoon and whisked him into the forest before confirming his abduction to his family on Saturday night.
A family member informed Nigerian Tribune that the kidnappers took the ransom from the family despite the claims by the police to have swung into action to arrest them.
He said despite all the pleadings by the families of the clerics to the kidnappers to reduce the money the abductors maintained in taking N2m before setting their victim free.
He said that individuals in the community and the family members were begged to raise N2m to secure the Islamic cleric.
He said, “They released the Chief Imam on Sunday night after we gave them N2m as ransom.
“They initially insisted on N10m saying but when we pleaded, in the end, they agreed to collect N2m from us.”
The State police spokesman, Funmi Odunlami, could not be reached for her reaction as of the time of filing this report.
