Kiddo Sings: Independent artist with powerful message, passion for music

Omogbolahan Giwa, better known by his stage name Kiddo Sings, is an emerging Nigerian artist who’s on a mission to bring his unique sound and message to the world.

Born and raised in the beautiful town of Epe, where he completed both his primary and secondary education, Kiddo Sings later furthered his studies at Lagos State University, Ojo Campus. His journey into music started at a young age, and the name “Kiddo Sings” reflects this early passion. “I was a kid that just loved to sing and entertain people around me,” he shares.

His small stature and love for performing earned him the nickname, which stuck as he ventured into the music industry.

Kiddo Sings first found his love for music in 2010/2011, singing popular songs for friends as a form of entertainment. This hobby soon transformed into something deeper, and by late 2011, he began writing his own songs. His earliest musical influences came from his father, Sir K Kamoru, as well as Nigerian music legends like Fela, 2Face, D’banj, and Wizkid.

For Kiddo, music has always been more than just sound—it’s a form of therapy. “Music to me is therapy, so nothing can be more satisfying to do for fun than music,” he explains, highlighting the emotional connection that drives his creativity.

Kiddo Sings’ music is rooted in his personal experiences. “Emotions and circumstances around me are my greatest strengths,” he says, explaining that his songwriting starts with the feelings and situations he’s going through at any given time. His belief in God plays a significant role in guiding his creative process, helping him transform raw emotions into music.

While he doesn’t follow specific rituals, Kiddo’s music comes to life through the intensity of his experiences. “Life has taught me what I wasn’t taught in school,” he reflects, noting that much of his inspiration comes from the lessons he’s learned outside the classroom.

Kiddo Sings’ latest project, RBB Lifestyle (Responsible Bad Boy) Lifestyle, offers an intimate look into his world. With a blend of good vibes and positivity, the project serves as an introduction to the brand he’s building. “It’s just telling people about me, my way of life—the struggles, the pain, and how we overcome a lot of challenges after being labeled as a bad guy,” he explains.

Unlike previous works, this project feels more personal. “I can tell for a fact that this particular project is not fictional,” he says. Each song reflects a specific period of his life, making it an authentic expression of his journey as both an artist and a person.

When it comes to collaborations, Kiddo Sings is selective. He chooses artists who understand the theme of the project and can add value to it. “Someone that won’t give less,” he emphasizes, explaining that he seeks collaborators who relate to the emotions and messages in his music.

One memorable studio session involved working with an artist who was so moved by the music that he nearly cried. “It made the process easier and more fun,” Kiddo recalls, underscoring the emotional depth that drives his music.

As an independent artist, Kiddo Sings faces numerous challenges. Without the backing of a record label or investor, he funds his own projects and often pays for show tickets just for recognition. “The fact that there’s no recognition yet sucks and is exhausting,” he admits. Yet, despite these hurdles, Kiddo remains committed to his craft. “Though nothing comes easy, I’m ready to give it all.”

One thing that fuels his growth is his willingness to embrace feedback and criticism. “I’m a lover of feedback,” he said. Kiddo uses criticism as a tool to improve, focusing on areas that need work and striving to deliver what his audience loves.

For Kiddo Sings, one of the proudest moments in his career is the love he receives from the streets. “The love I receive from people who believe in my music is my proudest moment,” he said.

Looking to the future, Kiddo dreams of collaborating with Wizkid, one of his greatest influences. He’s also set on becoming the best version of himself, both as an artist and a person.

Despite the demands of the music industry, Kiddo Sings works hard to maintain balance in his life. “Nothing should be a hindrance to another,” he says, explaining that he structures his daily activities to ensure he stays on track with both personal and professional goals.

Kiddo Sings’ journey is far from over. As he continues to evolve, he’s determined to leave his mark on the industry. “I want to be the best,” he says, driven by passion and the positive feedback from his fans. With his raw talent, emotional depth, and unwavering commitment, Kiddo Sings is set to rise—and his music will continue to be a voice for those who connect with his message of resilience, growth, and authenticity.
As he puts it: “Music is therapy, and for me, there’s nothing more satisfying.”
