The Chairman of Maiyama Local Government in Kebbi State, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu-Liba, has dismissed allegations of misconduct raised against him.

The issue came up after the Maiyama Local Government Progressive Union submitted a petition, which was read on Wednesday during the Kebbi State House of Assembly sitting by the Speaker, Alhaji Mohammed Usman.

The petition accused the chairman of converting an 18-seater Toyota bus for personal use, failing to complete the Maiyama–Andarai electricity project despite full payment, selling two caterpillars and a fill-loader owned by the council, and disposing of plots at Dadin Kowa Market without approval.

Speaking with journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, Aliyu-Liba rejected the claims and said they were unfounded. He noted that the heavy-duty machines mentioned in the petition were auctioned with approval from the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He also said the 18-seater bus was still in use and assigned to political support activities for the governor and the president.

“The 18-seater bus is on ground; it was never sold as alleged. It is in my custody as Chairman of Maiyama Local Government,” he said.

On the electricity project, he explained that it had been completed and that the community was now receiving power supply.

“i wrote to the Governor on the need to repair the Andarai electricity supply, and he approved N245 million for the project.

“The work is 100 per cent completed and Andarai is enjoying adequate power supply,” he assured.

Aliyu-Liba also asked the petitioners to present evidence, especially regarding the alleged allocation of plots at Dadin Kowa Market.

“There was no such allocation during my tenure. Frivolous and baseless allegations of political blackmail cannot stand without cogent evidence,” he said.

“The investigation on the petition is yet to be officially served to me,” he said.

He encouraged residents of Maiyama to remain calm and follow the law while the assembly completes its review.

The Councillor for Andarai Ward, Alhaji Haruna Musa, supported the chairman’s statement, confirming that the electricity project was completed and that residents were now enjoying a steady supply.
