A governorship aspirant under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in ogun State, Mr Sina Kawonise has rejected the conduct and the outcome of the governorship primary election, which took place in Abeokuta, on Friday.
In a statement he personally signed and made available to Saturday Tribune, he said the election, which came after three changes in date and postponements was a sham and unacceptable to men of honour.
The election, according to him was held without any written guideline; no names and contacts of those to conduct the election and no known addresses of election venues.
“Reports has it that there are only two women from Lagos SDP posted to Ogun State to conduct the election. The so-called SDP Ward and LG officials are saddled with the responsibility of conducting the election in unknown venues without any independent external supervision. Supposed votings are being made without party membership forms or party membership cards. Consequently, the people given the election materials disappeared into different corners and wrote votes for the different aspirants they are supporting. This definitely cannot be what the SDP wants to call governorship primary election.
“Meanwhile, I had anticipated all these and raised them in series of memos written to the National Vice Chairman (South West), Chief Supo Sonibare; Assistant National Secretary (South West), Hon Mabinuori; Ogun SDP Chairman, Chief Kunle Majekodunmi; and others directly involved in organising the primary election. None of the issues was addressed,” he stated in the statement.
