Following the pockets of violence that marred the conduct of the election in Kogi state, where scores were injured and a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) women leader burnt to death, many aggrieved Nigerians have taken to the social media, especially on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to call on the Nigerian government to ensure justice is served.
Mrs Acheju Abuh, the women leader of Wada Aro campaign council, Ochadamu, in Kogi state, was burnt alive in her home by suspected political thugs.
The suspected thugs, it was gathered, invaded her home, locked all exits in the house and poured petrol before setting the place on fire. In this melee, other houses also got burnt.
While the Kogi police command had come out to say the burning of Mrs Abuh was a reprisal, some advocacy groups and well-meaning Nigerians have condemned her killings and demanded an investigation into her death.
Below are the reactions of Nigerians on Twitter:
This is the kind of evil we must all condemn and stamp out of our society. The Government must ensure the arsonists cum murderers are found and brought to book. This is heinous, barbaric and against what we stand for as a people. #EndElectionViolence #JusticeForMrsAbuh https://t.co/XfvrVb8XzG

The horrors of Kogi go beyond party lines. Every single soul lost to that election must get justice regardless of which side they belong. The tweets for justice and sanity is not along political lines but humanity. We need not know what lies beneath. Human lives were lost period!

I hope the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to find the killers of Hon. Abuh who was killed in the most unimaginably horrific manifestation of #electionviolence#JusticeForMrsAbuh https://t.co/Puyy69GbcN

This horrific level of violence cannot be allowed to become a new norm in our nation's democratic record – we must unite to condemn it, and ensure that all perpetrators – material and Intellectual – are brought to justice.

I have been terrified to the bones and words failed me on the news of this ungodly act of violence. May her killers know no peace. The act was needless in every sense of it. The @OfficialPDPNig mourns and consoles with family or Mrs Abuh, may God rest her soul. pic.twitter.com/dZ3DADsfDE

Our party once again mourns our compatriots killed by the @OfficialAPCNg in this election, including our Woman Leader, Acheju Abuh, who was burnt to death by APC thugs at her home on Monday.
