THE rank of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) dwindled significantly yesterday in Edo State as some top members of the party defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The list of those who formally defected included the PDP governorship candidate in the 2016 election in Edo State, former chairman of Edo State branch of the APC, Comrade Tony Omoaghe; two former speakers of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Bright Omokhodion and Mr. Jude Ebeha; a former chairman of Etsako Central local government area, Mr. Emmanuel Momoh; and a host of others.
At the event which was like a mini rally at Ize-Iyamu’s uptown house, the ex-secretary to Edo State Government told the mammoth crowd which included former two-time member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Pally Iriase that he was joining the mainstream APC and not any of the factions.

The motion for the mass resignation of thousands of supporters who thronged the venue of the event was moved by Omokhodion and seconded by three leaders from Edo North, Central and South senatorial districts.
In his speech which was punctuated by religious songs, he said that he was quitting the PDP, not out of malice and bitterness but to fulfill his political aspirations.
He said: “I see politics as an opportunity to represent our people. We have to achieve our aims of being in politics. We consulted with our people and God before moving. Politics should not been seen as being in the warfront.
“APC is my home to us just like the PDP. We are not going to to APC to join factions. I pledge my full loyalty to APC leadership.”
