ISN flags off 2021 Medical Laboratory Scientist Award

ISN Medical, one of the nation’s suppliers of medical diagnostic products and services, has announced the flag-off of its annual Medical Laboratory Scientist Award, in Lagos.

Making the call for entries for this year’s edition of the Awards,  over the weekend,  the  company’s Managing Director, Mr Felix Ofungwu, stated that the annual awards, now in its second edition, is designed to recognise, reward and celebrate the unsung heroes of the nation’s medical practice;  the medical laboratory scientists.

He argued that despite the huge roles the medical laboratory scientists have continued to play in the nation’s healthcare system, such roles are hardly noticed and celebrated.

According to him, the decision to come up with the award, in 2020, was informed by the need to bring the role of this class of medical practitioners to the front burner, acknowledged such roles in enhancing quality medical practice, while also inspiring them with some cash and other gifts rewards.

The ISN Medical boss expressed his delight at the impact the first edition of the award, held last year, had continued to generate among critical stakeholders in the practice.

The Award, which is open to all certified medical laboratory scientists in Nigeria, will see the winner go home with the sum of N1million, and a donation of N1miliion worth of medical equipment to his laboratory, while the first and second runners up win the sums of N750,000 and N500,000 cash, respectively.

Speaking on the competition, the winner of the maiden (2020) edition of the Award, Mr Abiola Fashina, from the University of Lagos Medical Laboratory, stated that the Award had been of immense benefits to him and the university community.

“For instance, besides being that amount of money richer, the medical equipment donated to the laboratory has also enabled the laboratory expand its systems and perform optimally,” he stated.

He also noted that the Award had gone  a long way in providing some form of mentorship for the younger ones in the practice.
