IPPIS: Bayero University sacks lecturers on contract

Published by

BAYERO University, Kano (BUK), has in line with the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System IPPS guidelines terminated the appointment of all lecturers on contract with the university.

However, the vice chancellor, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello, said the contract academic staff that are foreigners are not affected

Professor Bello said the university gave the affected lecturers 40 days notice before the termination of their appointment, against the 30 days notice as contained in their contract agreement.

The university explained that the termination of the appointment is in line with the federal government’s directive to enroll staff on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information System (IPPIS) which does not accommodate contract staff.

The vice chancellor said the termination of the contract staff would not affect the institution as the affected lecturers are not more than five, out of the university’s 1,776 academic staff.
