Insecurity: We are engaging in community efforts to complement Agbu, Taraba lawmaker says

Taraba State House of Assembly member representing Takun  constituency, Honourable Abubakar John Tonko, on Tuesday said he was engaging in community efforts with his constituency to complement Governor  Kefas Agbu ‘s efforts to end killings in the local government.

Tonko, who  disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in Wukari ,  said  the idea was to help fast track the end of dispute between farmers and herders in the state.

According to the lawmaker, investigation has  indicated  that resource allocation was the reason behind  the dispute between farmers and herders in the area.   He said  that he and  other critical stakeholders are engaging in community efforts to complement the effort of  the governor to end the dispute.

“I salute the response of  the governor  over  insecurity in Takum   community and other parts of  the state.  In our constituency, we are engaging in community efforts to help complement the effort of  the governor to end the dispute between farmers and herders without delay

“We understand that resource allocation is the reason behind the dispute .So, we are doing our best to put an end to the matter and cement a peaceful relationship between the two citizens. The conflict is basically agitation for resource allocation. Farmers are looking for land to farm, while herders are looking for land to graze,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Agbu, on Tuesday, signed  documents with an international company (Knight A.S) from the Czech Republic to supply modern farm equipment.

In a press statement signed by  the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr. Yusuf Sands, quoted the governor as saying the agreement is for the supply of 750 new global multi-purpose mini tractors and 100 sets of Cabrio compact tractors, accessories  and spare parts for small and medium scale farmers in  the state.

According to the statement, the move was in fulfilment of the administration’s promise to collaborate with foreign investors to modernise farming in the state.

The statement also disclosed that the farm equipment are to be delivered within the first 100 days of the administration at the cost of 100 million euros.
