Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling insecurity, declaring that sustained security operations across the state are yielding positive results, with some bandits reportedly seeking to surrender.

The State Security Adviser, Commander (rtd) Jerry Omodara, made the disclosure during a recent Security Stakeholders’ Consultative Engagement held at the Kogi State Police Command Headquarters in Lokoja.

According to him, the administration of Governor Ahmed Ododo has intensified its offensive against criminal elements, making the state increasingly hostile to bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups.

He stated that the ongoing security operations have significantly weakened criminal networks operating in parts of the state, adding that some bandits are now exploring ways to surrender due to mounting pressure from security forces.

He revealed that plans are underway to deploy additional helicopters for aerial surveillance and operations in forested areas known to serve as hideouts for criminals.

He expressed confidence that the enhanced security measures would further degrade the activities of criminal elements across the state.

The Security Adviser urged residents to continue their daily activities without fear, assuring them that government and security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property.

He also praised personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their sacrifices and dedication, noting that efforts to improve their welfare remain a priority of the state government.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ consultative meeting held in Kogi State on Sunday on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Rilwan Olatunji Disu, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), North-Central Geo-Political Zone, Isyaku Mohammed, called on residents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders to take greater responsibility in supporting security agencies to combat crime and safeguard communities.

The DIG emphasized that effective policing can only be achieved through strong collaboration between the police and the public.

He said his visit was aimed at assessing the security situation in the state, understanding the peculiar challenges confronting residents, evaluating the operational readiness of the command, and engaging stakeholders on strategies for addressing emerging security threats.

Participants at the meeting pledged their continued support for community policing initiatives and collective efforts aimed at sustaining peace and security across Kogi.
