A group of university professors, who are indigenes of the Ilorin Emirate in the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, under the aegis of the Ilorin Emirate Professors in KWASU, have said that members of the group are qualified to contest for the post of vice chancellor of any university in Nigeria, including KWASU and the world at large.
It is recalled that different groups have come out to support candidates to be appointed for the next substantive vice chancellor of the state university in their recent separate views.
In its reaction, titled; ‘KWASU VC Tussle: Uncovering Sinister Move and Plots against Ilorin Emirate Professors and staff of KWASU,’ signed by the chairman and secretary of the Ilorin Emirate Professors in KWASU, Professor A.G.F Alabi and Professor Mubaraq Sanni respectively, the group said that members of the group needed not to contest the position by seeking any undue favour.
The statement also said that members of the Emirate Professors in KWASU are occupying strategic positions based on merit.
“Ilorin Emirate Professors in KWASU are very responsible citizens of the state and are doing everything possible to support the growth and development of the University. The public needs to note that we are professional in all our conducts and dealings in all matters that have to do with us either as individuals or as a group.
“We are eminently qualified to contest for the post of Vice Chancellor of any University in Nigeria including KWASU and the world at large without seeking any undue favour based on any primordial sentiments.
“We make bold to say that the architects of those articles are ignorant of the situation at KWASU.
“With a simple diligence, the mischief makers would have discovered that Emirate Professors in KWASU are occupying strategic positions and purely on merit. The Emirate Professors and other staff members of the Ilorin Emirate are doing very well and can hold their heads high at all times in the University.
“Our upbringing has inculcated into our minds and souls the spirit of healthy competitions and the acceptance that power comes from our creator Who gives to whom He wishes and takes from who He pleases!
“The entire members of the association completely dissociate themselves jointly and severally from such malicious/unguarded publications from un-informed members of the public.”
“As a body of respected intellectuals, we assure the entire emirate and KWASU community of continuous support to the present management of the university as presently constituted and we shall continue to discharge our duties as required by the laws of engagement to the service of the University”.
