RESIDENTS of Oyo State have been urged to ignore propagandists peddling lies against the governor of the state, Mr Seyi Makinde.
Making the call were members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) living with disabilities in the state under the aegis of Authentic PDP Disabled Youths (APDY), in a statement signed by their Chairman, former member of Ibadan North Local Government caretaker committee, Wasiu Nurudeen, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, on Sunday.
They said: “We are using this opportunity to appeal to residents of Oyo State to never listen to the enemies of our dear state in their propaganda and lies against Governor Makinde. He is a father and lover of the masses. This showed in the ways he is handling the affairs of the state. We are happy and hoping our party would be greater than it is.”
They also appealed to the governor to allow them to champion the course of reconciling aggrieved members of the party in the state, noting that the crisis can easily be resolved as a result of their involvement, adding that they believe in the vision and mission of Governor Makinde to make the party remain a force to reckon with in the state.
The statement further said that the process of the reconciliation would be coordinated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on disability matters, Ayodele Adekanmbi.
Nurudeen, who signed the statement specifically said all the aggrieved members are his uncles, sisters and fathers who can easily be convinced of the genuineness of Governor Makinde to bring on board all members of the party regardless of their grievances.
According to him, he has designed a template and modalities to go about the reconciliation of aggrieved leaders, fathers, sisters and uncles in PDP.
The statement reads in part: “It is true we are physically challenged and inconsequential to some people but many of us are graduates and in many times engaged in intellectual discussions which amaze people. If we are physically challenged that does not mean we are daft.
“On this note, we have come together in strategising on how to reposition our party. PDP must not die in Oyo state. Our leaders suffered for the party and we must not allow conflict in PDP.
“Our strategy cannot be discussed on the pages of the newspapers but we are appealing to our leader, father and mentor, the governor of Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde, to give us the necessary support to talk to the aggrieved members on the way forward.”
