I feel depressed over Rivers emergency rule — Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has acknowledged experiencing emotional distress due to the ongoing political turmoil in the state.

His admission comes in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s decision to impose a state of emergency, leading to Fubara’s six-month suspension while a sole administrator takes over governance.

The crisis in Rivers State stems from a political rift between Fubara and his former mentor, Nyesom Wike, who previously governed the state and now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking at his private residence while receiving Muslim faithful who visited him for a Sallah homage, Fubara expressed his sentiments about the situation.

““We, as humans, might feel a bit depressed because of the situation, maybe because of what we are seeing but might not understand,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Fubara emphasised the importance of remaining steadfast and looking to a higher power for guidance.

“But in everything, we have decided to give glory to the Almighty God, so in this season of sharing, love, sacrifice, I want you people to know that I key into your period of festivals,” he stated.

He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a just society where everyone is treated fairly.

“You have said it already that our dreams and vision for this state is the society that no man should be oppressed,” Fubara remarked.

“No matter what we see, we must remain steadfast. In all things, we give glory to Almighty God. I believe that, in the end, we will emerge stronger.

Urging patience and caution, the governor warned against being provoked into actions that could destabilise the state further.

“It’s a very important virtue in the cause of this struggle, please be patient and don’t allow anybody to push you into any form of provocation,” he advised.

“What they want is to destroy this state, what they want is to create problem, and deny you that means of livelihood that you have here and we will not allow it,” he added.
