The 2020/2021 graduating students  of Kingston College, Ibadan,  have been charged to be good ambassadors of their alma mater.

The  Executive Director of the school, Dr Kayode Fasola, gave this charge recently during the sixth valedictory held at the school’s hall.

Fasola thanked God for the successful completion of another academic year and another fulfillment of the reason for the establishment of the school, which is to bring about an all-round reformation in the country and beyond by grooming minds who will wield positive influence on the society.

He said there was no gainsaying that the educational system was in shambles and needed  redemption, which will partly  be attained by quality investment in education. He therefore, admonished the graduating students to beware of greed as nothing is enough to the man for whom enough is too little. Remember  what you were taught here that honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom. We will be greatly delighted to hear hair-raising news about you. Be true ambassadors of this college, your family and do us proud out there. May God Almighty be with you.”

Responding to why the school decided to hold valedictory ceremony when many other schools owners are waiting till the end of NECO and WAEC, Fasola said, “As a school, I don’t think there is need to postpone the valedictory ceremony having gone far in their NECO though it began late. With this, the school will be able to celebrate the students and the celebration should also be extended to their families who have supported them all these years in terms of resources.  At certain level, it has come to an end and they are preparing for another level. Let the students feel it that they have graduated from an institution. It shows an aura in those children and also put them in a state that they should be able to raise some ego to their colleagues that they are out of the secondary school.  So if anyone postpones till August or September, truth is nobody could foresee what will be the situation then. That is why we said ‘God has given us this time, let us have it so that that thinking will be in the kids and they will go home in that celebration mood  and face the second face of the examination which is the WAEC. The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, who is the Chairman, Board of Directors of the college, Professor Labo Popoola, said despite the crisis of pandemic in year 2020, the school is grateful to God because none was consumed. He charged the graduating students to bear in mind and be prepared for the new world they are going into which is of mixed blend-world of ups and downs, love and hate, satisfaction and wants and also of uncertainty. “Kingston College has placed great emphasis on developing practical and sound principles that will guide the students in you in making and striking balance between work and pleasure. Need I remind you that you should make the best use of life lessons you learnt here. Your name once built should be your priceless jewel. Remember to uphold the good name of your school,” prof. Popoola advised.

In addition, the dedication of and commitment of all staff members, both academic and non-academic were acknowledged by the Chairman while he encouraged them to keep up the good work.

The principal of the college, Mr Joshua Ajayi could not but express his joy because God was gracious unto the school throughout the academic session. He appreciated everyone-the management, parents, academic and non-academic staff and students, who contributed to the successes recorded thus far, praying specifically for parents that they will not  plant for another man to harvest but will gladly reap the fruits of their labour.

Ajayi advised the graduating students to let their light shine brilliantly for the world to see wherever they find themselves after leaving the school. “Higher institution of learning is relatively a land of freedom where destinies are made and many are marred. Be determined, be self motivated, seek glodly counsel when need arises and have personal relationship with the Lord your Maker. In addition, Be diligent  in your academic and career pursuit,” he said.

Two children of same parents, Oluwanimi fise and Oluwatumi Omojowolo were honoured by Espelum –Spring Nigeria Limited with scholarship and ticket to go shop at a popular mall as the best overall students in year 9 and 12 respectively. There were also presentation of other awards to students among other presentations marking the ceremony.
