The city of Abeokuta in Ogun State was agog with celebrations as high-profile personalities gathered to honour former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 88th birthday. The event, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Conference Hall, attracted a distinguished array of guests, including current and former political leaders, traditional rulers, and captains of industry.
Notable attendees included former Governors Sule Lamido, Ibikunle Amosun, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who joined the festivities to pay tribute to Obasanjo’s enduring legacy. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun lauded the former president as an advocate for peace, security, and development, emphasizing that his influence extends beyond Nigeria and Africa.
Other dignitaries seen at the event were Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mr Peter Obi, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Sir Kessington Adebutu amongst many others.
In his remarks, Chief Obasanjo, who dressed in a colourful agbada with the bold inscription ‘Egba Liganza’ expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, reiterating his belief that the country will achieve an enviable status that all citizens can be proud of, regardless of current challenges.
The event underscored the former president’s enduring impact on national and international affairs, as well as his ongoing dedication to service, philanthropy, and nation-building.
