Hapag-Lloyd hikes shipping charges to Nigeria by $100 per container

GERMAN container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd has announced a new General Rate Increase (GRI) of $100 per container from India to Nigeria and Ghana.

With a fleet of 258 ships transporting 11.8 million TEU per year, Hapag-Lloyd is one of the major container carriers to Nigeria.

The German shipping line said that the new GRI will apply to cargo transported in 20ft and 40ft dry containers, including high cube equipment.

The Hamburg-based ocean carrier said the GRI will be charged on all containers being shipped from Mundra, Nhava Sheva and Hazira in India to Apapa and Tin Can Island ports in Lagos and Tema port in Ghana.

The shipping line said the rate increase will be applicable from October 1 and will be valid until further notice.
