Two rights groups under the umbrella of “Nigeria First Movement and True Nigeria Patriots” on Wednesday raised an alarm over an alleged plot by some impostors to use the names of the organisations in a protest against President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, the national coordinator of Nigeria First Movement, Emmanuel Anuforo, along with the leadership of the True Nigeria Patriots, said that they had already alerted both the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhaji Yusuf Bichi, on the alleged plot.
They claimed that the unnamed impostors have concluded plans to use their names and organise protests with hired miscreants in Abuja, Lagos and London-UK to march against the President and the CBN governor over some government policies in the days ahead.
They further explained that the petition to both the police and the DSS on the plot was for the security agencies to arrest the impostors and their sponsors and conduct further investigation on their activities.
They alleged that the sponsors of the smear campaign have already disbursed the sum of about N100m to conduct a robust smear campaign against the President and the CBN governor respectively.
The groups while dissociating themselves pledged their continued loyalty to Buhari administration and passed a vote of confidence on the President and the CBN governor and their ability to fulfil the President’s pledge to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
