The Women and Youth Farmers Agriprenuer Regional Conference (WAYFARC) organized a two-day sensitization workshop for 450 Jigawa women and youth in agriculture on growing agriculture and reducing poverty.
Speaking to Online Tribune exclusively, the president of Nigeria Agribusiness Group (NAGB), Arc Kahr Ibrahim, said the the workshop is aimed at building more capacity of the participants on more potentials in agriculture as a business.
The president who was represented by the Coordinator Women and Youth Farmers Agriprenuer Regional Conference (WAYFARC) and the secretary general of Nigeria Agribusiness Group (NABG) Mrs. Olubukola Nwaneri said WAYFARC is designed to bring the women and youth in Nigeria out of poverty to engage in agriculture, “agriculture should not be just a farming alone, but to realizes and engage on agriculture as a business (Agricbusiness)”.
The president explained that “even if you are a farmer by the time you realize that you are into a business, you will put more seriousness into it. And we also create awareness, and enlightenment and help women and youth to be sensitive to what they are doing to know there are future and lives into agribusiness”.
Mrs. Olubokola Nwareni noted that “you don’t necessarily need to be in production, you can be in processing, you can be in offtaking, marketing, essential service and every value chain in agribusiness.”
According to her the group supports and enlightens the women and youth on governments and non governmental organization on how to process and secure loans, grants, and other interventions, also to creating awareness, coordinating and linking the women and youth farmers on a value chain, that is producers, create market, processors, offtakers, etc.
She maintained that “we facilitate businesses, we facilitate partnership, also follow up on government policies, at times government made policies for agric without the inputs of the real agriculturalist, steps in and bridge that gaps.
Mrs. Nwareni added that Jigawa was selected in the northwest region for its potentialities in agriculture and government effort and commitment in the sector to encourage and support the women and youth in agriculture to explore the advantages of agriculture and business (agricbusiness).
