A socio-cultural group, Ebedi Frontliners, Iseyin has called on Governor Abiola Ajimobi to see to the construction of the Moniya-Iseyin and Iseyin-Oyo roads.

President of the group, Mr Olusegun Adeleke, who made this call after its monthly meeting, pointed to the several potholes and ditches on the road, as virtually rendering the road impassable for commuters.

He noted the attendant difficulty that farmers and traders faced in transporting their goods, adding that the roads were peculiar as major links to Oke-Ogun area of the state from the North, Lagos, and Ibadan.

“No day has passed in the last one year that the two roads have not claimed at least a life. Majority of our people in Oke-Ogun are farmers, traders, and artisans and ply the Oyo-Iseyin road and Moniya-Ibadan to ferry goods and farm products in and out of the region of the State.

“Unfortunately, many goods from the farm get rotten as the vehicles that transport these farm produce are always on the road, undergoing repair because of big ditches and potholes. It is telling on the prices of foodstuffs.”

“Armed robbers now see these roads as easy areas to operate. Vehicles enter ditches, tumble and empty their contents on these roads because of its bad. The government should please come to the aid of our people.”

“The dual-carriage township road in Iseyin is commendable but we are also appealing to Governor Abiola Ajimobi to commence work on the Moniya-Iseyin and Oyo-Iseyin roads to reduce the hardship faced by our people.”

“If these roads get the due attention as we expect from this performing government, we shall forever remain grateful,” Adeleke said.

The body, however, appreciated the state government’s effort at boosting economic activities at the local level with the establishment of Aso-Ofi International Tourism Market at Iseyin, noting that the venture would reduce youths drift to Lagos for menial jobs
