As part of its community outreach and humanitarian service, a group called GST 1019 Initiative has awarded scholarships of N150,000 each to 300 students in Benue State as educational aid.
The convener of the group, Hon. Tersoo David Ukechir, told newsmen in Jos, Plateau State, over the weekend that an arrangement has equally been concluded to launch 300 scholarships for another set of students of tertiary institutions in Bauchi and Plateau states, respectively.
According to him, the gestures were part of the efforts to support the efforts of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, adding that the government at this crucial time needs the support of all both in providing infrastructure, among other things, just to lessen the burden on the government.
“On community outreach, we have focused on direct community engagement by offering tangible solutions to the daily challenges of Nigerians. From healthcare initiatives to supporting local businesses, our outreach programs are making an impact. One of our flagship projects is the erection of over 100 billboards in various states, each one sharing a message of hope, love, and patriotism. These billboards reflect the core values of President Tinubu’s leadership, which emphasise unity and development for all Nigerians.”.
“This has caused us millions of naira, but we are not relenting; over 140 projects have been completed; a good example is the girls’ school. We are renovating a school with 200 students that was in a dilapidated Plateau state. We are bringing it up to standard because this is what our president stands for.”
He added that the GST 1019 Initiative has since embarked on some projects such as boreholes, medical outreaches, and solar-powered boreholes in states across the country to complement and support the efforts of the administration.
Hon. Ukechir further highlighted that the mandate of the group includes fostering unity by supporting under-represented and underserved communities and the use of educational aid and outreach to empower the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
He therefore urged Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations, to support the President Tinubu-led administration, adding that the hardship being experienced in the country is a result of years of misguided policies and poor governance by the previous governments.
“The hardship in the country is unfortunate; the present administration inherited a terrible economic situation that requires tough decisions. Some will argue that the dollar wasn’t this high before, but the question is: what was the government doing to the dollar? Were they taking money meant for development and pushing the dollar down artificially?””
