Abia State government has finally confirmed the death of Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai, the Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
The state government in a statement signed by Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Commissioner for Information, regretted the death of the former deputy chief of staff, describing it as a shock.
The statement confirmed that Chief Agwu died on Tuesday after a brief illness, adding that his demise was a great loss to Ukpai Agwu Ukpai family, Ohafia clan and Abia State in general.
The Abia State government further consoled the family of the Asaga Ohafia-born politician, noting that his services would be surely missed.
Chief Agwu was a prominent political player in the government of Okezie Ikpeazu, dating back to his role towards the election of the governor in the first and second tenures, which earned him the post of deputy chief of staff back-to-back.
And he was actively involved in the PDP campaign trains last week before the bye-election in Aba North/South federal constituency.
The news of his death has generated shock inside the government house.
Attempts made earlier by Nigerian Tribune to get confirmation of the development were not successful until the state government finally issued s statement.
