EBONYI State government has donated one hundred and fifty million naira grant to market women to encourage their business.
Governor Umahi made the donation at a town hall meeting with Ebonyi State stakeholders on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki.
According to Governor Umahi who said the welfare of the people remain his primary concern, also appoints two of the market women as technical assistant and DONATES 20million naira to urban market women and 10 million Naira each to the 13 local government area in the state to empower and support the women at the grassroots provide for their families.
Also in complimenting the efforts of the women, Governor Umahi abolish all tax collection from petty traders, manifest fee and hawkers stressing that five years imprisonment await anyone who violated the order.
Umahi further directed that no child of aged should be seen hawking during school hours as that will attract punishment.
“I am suspending all the contractors in charge of internally generate revenue until I finish reviewing them. All the illegality of tax collection in the name of government must end and anyone who violent the law will be taken to prison.
“Enough is enough for people to be using my name illegally I will never accept that because the cry of the poor reaches heaven on that note I must make the welfare of the people my primary priority.

“All revenue collection from women without shops and hawkers is also abolished and anyone trying to do that will be sentenced to 5years imprisonment.
“All income tax and tenement rates are thereby suspended till further notice.
“Enough is enough I am launching operation catch them because Ebonyi State is bless with mineral resources and this revenue we generate is very poor. traditional rulers and town union should provide all forms of mining activities going on in all the their area. The community leaders should think for the future of their children and stop selling off their birth right .
“No children of age should be allow to hawk during the school hours. If taskforce arrest them and you the parent come to bail your child you will be arrested also so take note. Education is very important for our children ” He said.
Governor Umahi also promised to constitute a team through the commissioner for land to moderate the high rates of houses in the state as he abolishes all landlord fees and other taxation.
Meanwhile the deputy governor Dr. Kelechi Igwe urged the traditional rulers and town unions to arrest and prosecute all illegal tax collectors in their area.
