Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has visited the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he paid tribute to the hundreds of thousands of victims who perished during the 900-day siege of Leningrad in World War II.
The governor was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman Gawu, and other top government officials, including the Chairman of Niger Foods, Sammy Adigun. Together, they laid a wreath in honour of the victims.
Reflecting on the immense sacrifices made by both civilians and soldiers during the war, the governor expressed empathy and solidarity with the Russian people.
Governor Umaru Bago used the occasion to emphasise the importance of learning from historical events to foster global peace. He also highlighted the role of international engagement in strengthening ties between sub-national entities and preserving the memories of past generations for the future.
