GMA graduates 135 students, to produce more professionals for maritime industry

The Global Maritime Academy (GMA) has graduated a total of 135 students for the 2022 and 2023 convocation and passing-out parade with the award of diplomas, certificates, prizes and GMA fellowship awards.

Addressing the graduands and guests at the GMA campus located at Agbowhiame in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, the Rector of GMA, Dr. Mike Egbago, said that GMA has always striven for excellence and its fruits of collective efforts had been visible in the last 15 years of its existence.

Egbago, who said the academy will produce the best personnel for the maritime industry in Africa, affirmed that achievements of GMA stood as testimonies to the quality of education imparted at GMA and unwavering commitment to staff members.

He disclosed that over the years, GMA has nurtured and shaped young minds, instilling in them the values of knowledge, integrity and perseverance.

He added that the grandaunts from GMA had become leaders, innovators and agents of change in various fields which the school is proud of.

The GMA rector solicited for the continued support of the growth and improvement and humbly requested for support in enhancing infrastructure particularly in the area of library materials.

“With your support, we can continue to build on the legacy of GMA, ensuring that the future generations of the students receive the best possible education. Together, let us create an environment that fosters curiosity, creativity and a thirst for knowledge,” Egbago said.

In his address, the chairman of the governing council of the GMA, Professor Christopher Orubu said that from a humble beginning, Global Maritime Academy has emerged as a beacon of excellence in maritime education, leadership and global collaboration.

Professor Orubu noted that the dedicated staff, industry partnership and the commitment of the students had been the driving forces behind the success recorded by the school so far.

He saidP: “We have embraced cutting-edge technologies, adapted to involving industry trends and consistently strived for academic excellence. The result is the graduating class that stands ready to embark on successful careers in the maritime sector. Throughout the years, we have invested in state-of-art facilities and research initiatives to provide our students with comprehensive and practical learning experience. We have secured approval for additional nine courses from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in 2023.”

He urged the granduands that as they embark on that professional and career journeys they should remember that they are the ambassadors of a distinguished institution that continues to redefine the standards of maritime education.

The guest speaker at the occasion, Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa, delivered the graduation lecture titled “The Relevance of the Blue Economy.”
