THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday said there was nothing wrong with the “ember’’ months but that the attitude of road users caused traffic accidents.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, made the assertion during a one-day sensitisation programme for zero traffic accidents during the Christmas and New Year celebrations with the theme, “Safe Drive, Safe Arrival’’, in Asaba, Delta.
Oyeyemi, represented by the Zonal Commanding Officer, Mr Kehinde Adeleke, said that the deaths that occurred on the roads during the ember months were due to the attitude of the users.
He said that the command’s focus this year was to reduce road traffic crashes to zero level.
Oyeyemi said that study had revealed that most drivers had bad sight and neither took care of their sight nor got it checked.

He said that speed and drink driving were other factors leading to road traffic crashes, adding that the command had arranged for free eye tests for drivers and to treat their eye defects.
The corps marshal said that the highest number of crashes recorded was due to speed and that when there was a crash during speeding, the more fatal the crash.
He said that the command was now tired of burying able-bodied men and women and even children.
Oyeyemi advised drivers to avoid speed while driving, drink drive and those with faulty eyes to get it checked.
Earlier, the Delta Sector Commander, Mr Random Kunvem, said that awareness must be created during the ember months among road users for the safety of lives.
Kunvem said that the cardinal responsibility of FRSC was to create awareness with the focus to always save lives.
He said that the FRSC had over the time discovered that there was nothing so mystical about ember months but drivers attitude to the ember months. (NAN)
