As part of its vision to deliver affordable housing for Nigerian workers across the country, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has established a collaboration with the workers in Ondo State.

Speaking during the sensitisation programme organised for the civil servants in the state, the Executive Director (Business and Portfolio Management) of FMBN, Alhaji Umar Abdulahi Dankane, advised the civil servants in the state to embrace the scheme.

According to him, the programme was organised by FMBN to sensitise civil servants in the state on the need to join the National Housing Fund (NHF) scheme and take advantage to own their houses.

He explained that the overall objective of the programme was to provide a cheap source of loanable funds to nurture and sustain the mortgage industry and eventually facilitate affordable homeownership for the low and medium-income group in the country.

Dankane disclosed that the bank has collaborated with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) to develop 100 housing units in each state of the federation under the National Affordable Housing Delivery Programme.

He disclosed that the scheme is taking off in 14 out of the 36 states with two states from the geopolitical zone, labour centres, Lagos and Abuja, saying “this is intended to deliver affordable housing for Nigerians workers across the country.

“It is instructive to note that the bank has as at December 2019 refunded N86.6m to 1,054, beneficiaries and disbursed home renovation loan to the tune of N243m to 305 beneficiaries who are employees of Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State Oil Producing Development Commission and Federal Polytechnic, Ile Oluji.

“This is a clear indication that the return of the state to scheme presents tremendous opportunities for Ondo State indigene to enjoy inherent benefits available from participation innate NHF scheme.

He, however, promised the bank’s commitment towards discharging its mandate and to ensure the state workers enjoy the benefits of participating in the NHF scheme.

“The bank will also endeavour to sustain this sensitisation exercise. It is our expectation that this medium will help create awareness on the NHF scheme and solidify the relationship between FMBN and Ondo civil servants,” he said.

The State Head of Service, Mr Dare Aragbaiye, advised the state public servants to key NHFS programme of the FMBN and charged the management of FMBN to ensure the state workers enjoy the benefits in the NHF Scheme.

The HOS who was represented by the Director, Office of Establishments, Mrs Etanami Ogunmoniwo, reiterated the commitment of the state governor Mr Rotimi Akeredolu to continue to ensure improved welfare of workers in the state.
