The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has unveiled its plan to improve the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth with the training of selected youths from the Southwest on poultry farming and fish breeding.
The first set of the training, which was tagged Livestocks Farming Training for Southwest Youths to Benefit, was held at Wonderful Spring Board Farms, Olorund, in Lagelu local government area.
The Executive Chairman of the FIRS, who was represented by Mrs. Benedicta Akpana, disclosed that the Agency is currently sponsoring livestock farming training/empowerment across the states in the Southwest region.
She described the just concluded training of over 60 youths in Oyo state as a huge success.
According to her, “The FIRS is currently sponsoring a Livestock Farming Training/Empowerment for the youths from Southwest, especially Oyo State.
“We have just concluded first phase in Oyo state. Other phases will be held in Ekiti and Ondo states.
“The FIRS has empowered the beneficiaries with a token to sustain their poultry business.
“The beneficiaries are expected to make good use of the opportunity as they are expected to become successful livestock farmers in the next five years.
“They expected to contribute to the GDP growth of the Country as well be faithful in payment of taxes.
The convener of the training, Mr. Femi Rowland, underscored the relevance of the youths in the Socio-economic growth of the Country.
He added the partnership with the FIRS would go a long way in liberating the youths from the shackles of poverty.
According to him, ” This programme is put together to encourage the youths to venture into agriculture.
“The training of youths in livestock farming will create job opportunities as well eradicate hunger and poverty in the land.
The beneficiaries, in their testimony, appealed to the FIRS to guarantee them access to loans in order to expand their businesses.
