Works and Housing Minister, Mr Babatunde Fashola, on Wednesday, disclosed that the Federal Government is stepping up plans to rehabilitate internal road networks in federal tertiary institutions across the nation.
He said the plan is part of the physical interventions of President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration, to support education and improve quality of learning, as well as make life easy for students and workers in those institutions.
Fashola stated this while handing over 1.3-kilometre road, rehabilitated by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, the Ogun capital.
The Minister represented by the Controller of Works, Federal Ministry Works in Ogun state, Mr Umar Bakare, said the federal government had intervened in internal road networks of 46 federal tertiary institutions across the nation.
“We have successfully intervened in the internal road networks of 46 tertiary federal institutions and handed over 29 as of 2021, Andy we now have another 17 ready to be handed over while we are currently attending to 30 roads in similar institutions across the country making a total of 76,” he added.
He said the Buhari’s intervention on roads in those institutions had popped up enthusiasm in students to attend classes as the roads have been restored to good condition.

The Minister added, “The students are expressing renewed enthusiasm with regards to attending classes because some defective roads have been restored to good condition. This is consistent with our progressive ideal of improving the human condition; and that process continues here today as we hand over this one in Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta as a critical intervention to support.
“During the construction, over 50 people were employed in the process contributing to the job creation initiatives of the government, and it is hoped that the hospital will now ensure that this asset is used properly and not abused.”
Earlier, the Medical Director of Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Dr Paul Agboola, disclosed that the rehabilitation of road was happening for the first time since the hospital was established.
Agboola while lauding the effort of President Buhari, appealed to the FG to extend the intervention to other roads in the institution.
