The Federal Government has released the sum of N50million to fast-track completion of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) building project.
Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung made the disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja while declaring open the 52nd Ordinary Session of (ANOCA) and the Committee/Inaugural meeting of the newly elected Executive Committee Members of the Association for the 2017-2020 Olympiad.
The Minister who was represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry– Mr Abdulrazak Salau expressed the President Muhammed Buhari’s administration commitment to giving ANOCA the necessary support to ensure its effective take-off and operation in Nigeria.
He added that “a total sum of N314 Million (US$ 872,222) would be committed by the Government to complete the project apart from additional funds that would be required to furnish the edifice thereafter.
On his part, ANOCA’s President, General Intendant Lassana Palenfo expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the prompt fulfillment of its pledge.
He assured that the association is poised for rapid development of sports in Africa to complement efforts of government to enhancing African countries’ Olympic qualification chances and participation as well as improve their prospects to win more medals.
