THE Minister of Humanitarian, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk, has flagged off enumeration exercise of primary school pupils in Zamfara State, saying the Federal Government is committed to the feeding of pupils in primary schools.
Speaking while flagging off the enumeration exercise on Tuesday at Janyau primary and Model primary schools in Gusau and Maru town respectively, she disclosed that the aim of the exercise was to improve school feeding programmes in the state.
According to the minister, at the end of the exercise, the Federal Government is aiming at about 14million pupils that would benefit from the programme across the country.
The minister, who was represented by Ibrahim Modibbo of the Legal Department in the ministry, said the delegation was in the state to flag off the enumeration exercise with a view to having more and accurate data on the number of primary school pupils that would benefit from the Federal Government’s feeding programme.
“We are hoping that at the end of the exercise, the Federal Government would get more data that would assist in providing feeding for the pupils of primary schools,” she said.
She maintained that the enumeration exercise would only capture pupils of the lower classes. Meanwhile, at Maru Local Government Area, the Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Maigarj, commended the Federal Government for initiating feeding programme for primary school pupils in the country.
The emir, who spoke shortly after the flagging off of the exercise in Maru town, said the Federal Government’s feeding programme had assisted in the increase of enrollment of pupils in the state and the country at large.
He called on the people at all levels to support the Federal Government efforts in the provision of education for the youth in the country.
“It is the responsibility of every parent to educate their children with quality education, but the Federal Government supported us, this is commendable,” he said.
“The free feeding programme has encouraged more parents to enrol their children in schools across the emirate,” he added.
