Fedpoly Bauchi matriculates 4,887 students, warns against cultism

Federal Polytechnic Bauchi on Saturday matriculated 4,887 students for the 2018 /2019 academic session with a warning to steer clear of cultism, exams malpractice and other anti-social behaviours.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Mr Sanusi Gumau urged the new students to ensure excellence in character and learning during their stay in the school.

“Indecent dressing, cultism, theft and crime of any kind does not have a place in the institution,” he stressed.

According to him, the institution will only award certificates based on sound character and learning, advising the new students to focus seriously on their studies.

Gumau explained that for the 2018/2019 academic session, the Polytechnic received 7,322 applications and admitted 6,983 while 4,887 registered.

He gave a breakdown of the registered students as 297 for Diploma, 2448 for National Diploma, 2046 for Higher National Diploma, 28 for IJMB, 61 students for Pre-National Diploma and seven for remedial studies.

Earlier, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mrs Rakiya Malaika said: “We are starting off with nurturing of the students through lectures, I implore the parents to continue to look after these young adults.”

She reiterated the institution’s zero tolerance for indiscipline, including indecent dressing and disrespect to constituted authority.

Malaika charged the students to engage in serious academic activities to ensure smooth learning and exit from the institution.
