The efforts of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwumi Ambode at positioning Badagry as a nodal historical tourism town is receiving boosts from tourism stakeholders and practitioners.
Since the declaration of Badagry as a tourism post by Governor Ambode and the hosting of the State Executive Council meeting in Badagry, the town has continued to attract tourism investors and investments.
In fact, many tourism—related companies, hotels and outfits like the new Star rise International Hotel, Opa Farms Road, Star Rise Tour Service, Anago Tour International, and others have sprung up in Badagry servicing the emerging tourism industry. This and others must have incensed Mr Fashlanso Yomi, an ace actor and one of the best brains in the Nollywood and Are Ayandotun Ayanlakin , a cultural exponent and tourism enthusiast in making known their intention of building a cultural –tourism film village in Badagry .
According to Fashlanso, whose hobby is art collection and heritage veneration, “Badagry has a lot of stories to tell the world about the emergence of Nigeria as a nation. Badagry represents an opening into the socio-cultural tourism evolution of Nigeria in relation to the Diaspora and their essence, influence and impact on culture, education, commerce and intercontinental relationship. Badagry is a paragon of historical tourism via education, colonialism, slavery, Christianity, Islam, traditional institution and others. Hence we have decided to build the first cultural–tourism film village in this great town.”
Reinforcing this, Are Ayanlakin disclosed “the idea to build the cultural- tourism village in Badagry has received the approval of two prominent Yoruba traditional rulers who have agreed not only to be members of Board of trustees, but also ready to contribute to the success of the village”.
Are Ayanlakin said “we are still going on with consultation. We are going to address a press conference soon and we shall commence full scale development”.
