In commemoration of the first year anniversary, the family of late Alhaja Sikirat Alihu has sponsored a free medical outreach for residents of Ibadan at Bodija Estate Islamic Centre, Ibadan in honour of their late mother.
The free medical outreach, includes free blood pressure checks, malaria tests, Random glucose measurement, Diabetes screening, optical and dental consultations, counseling, and dispensing of some medications to those who need it.
In her part, one of the children of the deceased, Olabisi Alihu said that the “free medical outreach” is important to the children, because it was their mother’s passion for caring for those in need.
She added that the free medical outreach is meant to keep with the legacy of the late matriarch who was a retired nurse practitioner at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan during her lifetime.
She further added that the initiative was launched as a result of the deceased passion for helping others.
Adding that the initiative is also meant to bring help to people who might be suffering from some illness and as well live a lasting impact in lives of the beneficiaries
She said “ One year ago, we experienced the profound loss of our mother, Sikirat Adepeju Victoria Alihu (SAVA), who was a devoted nurse practitioner of over 60 years, a devout Muslim, a leader at the Bodija Estate and environs Muslim Community, a beloved member of the Bodija community and a cherished wife, mother and grandmother.
“In honor of Alhaja Sikirat Adepeju Victoria Alihu’s memory and her passion for helping others, we have launched a special medical outreach program aimed at providing some basic healthcare services to underserved members of the community.
“We have all gathered here to honor Mrs Sikirat Adepeju Victoria Alihu’s legacy and to continue her mission of caring for those in need,“ she concluded.
Also speaking at the event, a former chairman, Bodija Estate and Environs Muslim Community, Alhaji Ghaniyu Oladimeji lauded the family for the initiative.
He noted that the initiative is an opportunity for members of the public to check their medical condition.
He said, “I would like to congratulate the family for coming up with this project in honor of the late matriarch and I pray they sustain this kind of service to humanity over the years “.
One of the beneficiaries of the initiative, Kafayat Yusuf also appreciates the organisers of the outreach for the gesture.
