Former Registrar, Olabisi Onabanjo University, (OOU), Dr Tunji Sotoyinbo, has called on the government at all levels to as a matter of urgency upgrade educational facilities in Nigerian schools.
Sotoyinbo who is a member of Lisabi Elite Club, Abeokuta, also moved the motion for the improvement of the qualities of teachers across the country.
He gave the charge at a Press conference organised by the Lisabi Elite Club Abeokuta to mark the 50th anniversary of the club.
The former Registrar spoke while reacting to a question on how the society could be devoid of the issues of students harassing teachers, said parents must value education and must be prepared to contribute to the development of their children.
According to him “Parents must value education and must be prepared to pay the contribution to the development of their children.”
“I want to say in our own generation as teachers, we didn’t have that type of display, we thank God for that.”
“The system that takes discipline away from those who are supposed to be teachers and guidance of their children put under their care, I think that system is wrong and I stand to defend that at any time.”
“To improve that aspect, let parents train their children, let parents get their children to know that they have to respect the teachers in whose care they have put their children. That’s the only way.”
The President of the Club, Chief Jonathan Odekunle, while rolling out activities to mark the club 50th anniversary said the club will be visiting motherless homes on Tuesday, November 2021 adding that on Thursday, Professor Layi Erinoso will be speaking on social-cultural organization and national development, where the Agura of Gbaguraland will be a father of the day.
