Ex-Edo deputy speaker denies collecting money to remain in APC, predicts victory for Ize-Iyamu

A former deputy speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Prince Yekini Idaiye (Akoko-Edo 1) has vehemently denied collecting N40 million to remain in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevent him from defecting to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Idaiye who spoke yesterday explained that even with the dictates of the constitution, it was improper for an elected member to defect to another political party while still serving the mandate given by the electorate.

He said: “I could not have been given money to remain in a party on whose platform I was elected to represent my constituency. The allegation is baseless and has no substance.”

Idiaye insisted that his refusal to defect to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was informed by the outcome of his consultations with his constituent pointing out that politics was all about the people and not-self.

Citing the failure of Governor Godwin Obaseki to meet the needs of the people of Akoko Edo as it relates to the provision of social amenities, Idiaye expressed confidence that the APC will win Saturday’s Edo Governorship election convincingly.

He assured that APC will win the election in his constituency as Governor Godwin Obaseki has not commissioned any tangible project in the area in the last four years.

The former deputy speaker of the state assembly predicted that the margin with which APC would win in Akoko-Edo would be wide because of the failure of the president’s administration in the area.

He lamented that there was little or nothing to show to the people of Akoko-Edo that should warrant them to vote for the re-election of the incumbent governor.

The lawmaker called on the electorate to come out en-masse to exercise their franchise, adding that he was confident that the election would be devoid of violence as security personnel would be on ground to maintain law and order.
